“Understand this, James Bond has a license to kill. I would issue that license to Idris Elba just based on the work that I’ve seen him do,” Hanks says. He is clearly on board with the Luther star taking on this famed role of Ian Flemings’ iconic character.

Idris Elba has been considered a frontrunner in the selection of the new James Bond for a while. When asked about it, Elba often dismissed the idea of the Bond producers ever offering him the legendary role. “I can’t speak for them (the producer), but from my perspective, there’s never been any sort of truth to any of it. It’s a compliment, and it’s an honor, but it’s not a truth,” says Elba. Even during his interview for his recent Netflix release, he speaks in his usual charismatic way and denies having auditioned for the part.
