Everything Coming to HBO Max in June 2023: HBO Max recently underwent a rebranding, now known as Max, cementing its position as the leading streaming platform. It continues to bask in the success of its winter hit, The Last of Us, while bidding farewell to two of its most beloved and critically acclaimed shows of all time, Succession and Barry. As we enter June 2023, Max promises to uphold its tradition of delivering exceptional content with an exciting lineup of new releases.
Among the highly anticipated offerings is the controversial limited series, The Idol, featuring an all-star cast including pop sensation The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, and Schitt’s Creek’s Dan Levy. Additionally, fans can rejoice as the sequel series to Sex and the City – “And Just Like That,” returns for a second season, continuing the story of our beloved characters. And the final drumroll – The OTT platform also announced the exclusive streaming debut of Avatar: The Way of Water, the blockbuster movie that took the world by storm in 2022.

First Five on June 09
The inside story behind the ascent of Finland’s outgoing prime minister, Sanna Marin, is the subject of a new three-part docuseries from HBO Max. The streamer has unveiled the Finnish original “First Five,” which is billed as an “intimate” portrait of Marin and her headline-grabbing female cabinet. The project comes just weeks after Marin and her center-left Social Democratic Party were defeated by the conservative National Coalition Party.
The series claims to offer a “close-up view into the lives of exceptional politicians in unprecedented times” and introduces the women behind the public roles. Consisting of three 35-minute-long episodes, “First Five” marks HBO Max’s first Finnish documentary series.
How Do You Measure A Year? on June 14
A father films his daughter every year on her birthday, asking the same questions. In a mere 29 minutes, we see a girl go from a toddler to a young woman with all the beautiful and awkward stages in between while the father/daughter relationship evolves in all its complexities.
John Early: Now More Than Ever on June 17
John Early brings his unique blend of cutting commentary and pop star swagger to Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn, N.Y.; in the style of a gritty 70s rockumentary, Early performs stand-up, and explosive song covers from Britney to Neil Young.
The Righteous Gemstones, Season 3 on June 18
Well into the second generation of a grand televangelist tradition, the world-famous Gemstone family is living proof that worship pays dividends in all sizes. Patriarch Eli, the man most responsible for the tremendous success of the family’s megachurch, is in mourning over the loss of his wife. Jesse, the eldest of the three grown Gemstone siblings, looks to lead in his father’s footsteps but finds his past sins jeopardizing the family ministry.
Next in line comes middle sister Judy, who secretly lives with her fiancé and dreams of escaping the Gemstone compound. Rounding out the dysfunctional trio is pseudo-hipster Kelvin, the youngest of the preachers and a thorn in Jesse’s side. As the family battles numerous threats to their renowned religious empire, they continue to spread the good word… and make a solid buck doing so.
The Stroll on June 21
The history of New York’s Meatpacking District is told from the point of view of transgender sex workers who lived and worked there. They recount the violence, policing, and gentrification that lead to a movement for transgender rights.
And Just Like That…, Season 2 on June 22
The women of “Sex and the City” transition from the friendship they had in their 30s to a more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis return as Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, respectively, whereas Samantha has moved to London since Kim Cattrall chose not to reprise her role. Chris Noth, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, and Evan Handler all return to portray their characters from the original series. Willie Garson, who died Sept. 21, 2021, appears as Stanford Blatch in his final television role.
Downey’s Dream Cars on June 22
Follows Robert Downey Jr. and a team of experts who will restore six classic cars from Robert’s own collection to make them more eco-friendly; updating them into the new millennium while preserving the power and style.
Taylor Mac’s 24-Decade History of Popular Music on June 27
Captures Taylor Mac’s exuberant, blatantly gay 24-hour musical performance in New York City, featuring skilled musicians, creative costumes, and the American myth as recounted through sailor’s ditties, disco, and sugary pop alike.
Ten-Year-Old Tom, Season 2 on June 29
The animated series is created by Steve Dildarian and is a spiritual successor to his HBO series “The Life and Times of Tim.” The show follows Tom, an average kid struggling to navigate childhood who is surrounded by well-meaning adults with questionable guidance. Season 1 consisted of 10 30-minute episodes, each of which consisted of two quarter-hour segments.
Warrior, Season 3 on June 29

Warrior is a gritty, action-packed crime drama set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 19th century and based on the writings of martial arts legend Bruce Lee.
Season 3 picks up in the wake of the race riots that upended Chinatown in Season 2, Mai Ling (Dianne Doan) uses her government connections to consolidate power. At the same time, Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji) and the Hop Wei must find new ways to survive. Warrior also stars Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Kieran Bew, Dean Jagger, Tom Weston-Jones, Hoon Lee, Perry Yung, Langley Kirkwood, Miranda Raison, Chen Tang, Chelsea Muirhead, Mark Dacascos, and Joe Taslim.
